What a wedding in Italy really costs in 2027

What a wedding in Italy really costs in 2027

Real numbers from real quotes in the Veneto, Lake Garda and Verona: what 80 guests costs, where the money goes, and the four lines couples underestimate.

The short answer

For eighty guests in northern Italy, most foreign couples land somewhere between €45,000 and €90,000, all in. The spread is wide because two of the biggest lines — venue hire and catering — vary by a factor of three depending on region, day of the week and month.

That number excludes flights, accommodation, rings and clothing. It includes everything that happens between the ceremony starting and the last guest leaving.

Where the money actually goes

Catering is almost always the largest single line, and it is the one couples most consistently underestimate. In the Veneto, a proper seated dinner runs €110–€195 per person before drinks. Drinks add another €35–€70. For eighty guests, that alone is €11,600–€21,200.

Venue hire is the second line and the most negotiable. Expect €8,000–€28,000 for exclusive use of somewhere worth having. A Palladian villa on a Saturday in June sits at the top of that range; the same villa on a Thursday in April can be forty per cent less for an identical wedding.

Flowers and styling is where budgets quietly disappear: €3,500 buys a beautiful, restrained scheme, and €12,000 is easy to spend without the room looking meaningfully different in photographs.

The four lines couples always underestimate

  • Guest transport. If your venue is a hilltop estate and your guests are in a town twenty minutes away, you are paying for coaches. Budget €800–€2,600.
  • The rain plan. Many Italian venues charge separately for the covered alternative, and some don't have one that seats everyone. Ask before you sign, not after.
  • Corkage. A venue with an in-house cellar will charge €10–€25 per bottle to let you bring your own. On 80 guests that is a real number.
  • Overtime. Music curfews are legally enforced in most Italian comuni. Extending past 23:00 or 24:00 costs money where it is possible at all — and often it simply isn't.

How season changes everything

Winter dates cut the venue line by roughly a fifth and are genuinely lovely in Venice, where the light in January is extraordinary and the city is empty. August adds about ten per cent and is uncomfortably hot inland. September and early October are the sweet spot in wine country — harvest is happening, the light is long and the prices haven't dropped yet, which is why they book first.

What we'd tell you on a call

If your all-in budget is under €30,000, the Veneto and the Prosecco Hills will give you far more than Tuscany or Lake Como for the same money, and nobody in your photographs will be able to tell. If it's over €120,000, Venice becomes possible, and Venice is not comparable to anywhere else.

What 40, 80 and 150 guests actually cost

Guest count drives almost everything, and not in a straight line. Forty guests in northern Italy typically lands €28,000–€45,000: you can use venues that would be absurd at scale, and per-head catering is the whole budget. Eighty guests is €45,000–€90,000 and is where most foreign weddings sit. A hundred and fifty is €75,000–€150,000, and the jump is steeper than the headcount suggests because you have crossed into venues that need a real indoor alternative, more staff, and usually coaches.

The per-guest figure falls as numbers rise — fixed costs like photography, music and flowers spread further — but the total rises faster than most couples budget for. If you are hesitating between 90 and 110 guests, price both before you send the save-the-dates.

Where couples overspend without noticing

  • Upgrading the menu twice. The tasting is designed to sell you the next tier up. Decide your per-head ceiling before you go, and go having eaten.
  • Flowers by volume. Doubling the flower budget rarely doubles the effect. Two strong installations photograph better than forty small arrangements costing the same.
  • Welcome events. A rehearsal dinner and a farewell brunch can add thirty per cent to a wedding budget and are almost never in the original plan.
  • Currency drift. Between deposit and final payment a 5% move is normal — on €50,000 that is a photographer's fee appearing from nowhere.

What a planner costs on top

Full planning in Italy runs €8,000–€15,000; on-the-day coordination alone is typically €3,000–€8,000. Venue finding — what we do — is a single fixed fee rather than a percentage or an eighteen-month retainer, because it is one job rather than eighteen months of them. Those are different products and it is worth being clear which one you actually need before you pay for the largest one by default.

Two comparisons worth reading before you commit: Veneto or Tuscany, and Lake Garda or Lake Como. Then run your own numbers in the budget calculator.
